Choreographer Esmé Boyce responds to the rhythm and rotational movement qualities of Daniel Rothbart’s sculptures using her focus and the momentum of her limbs to embody and frame the piece. It is an original ritual as well as a duet between the animate and inanimate.
Composer Patrick Grant has created Empty Vessels Make the Loudest Sound, an ever-evolving ambient soundscape that comes from recordings he made of Daniel Rothbart’s vessel sculptures. The rhythmical patterns and melodic curves of the piece are informed in equal part by medieval change ringing, Balinese gamelan, and the self-similar/self-described mathematical constructions of fractals.
SOUNDING SPACES is a fluid sculptural installation by Daniel Rothbart at Spectrum. Through a series of special performances, each of the sculptural elements becomes locus for collaborations with composers, choreographers, dancers and performance artists. 09:48.
