“Guided by Wayne Koestenbaum’s inspired commentary, we watch as the forms of Rothbart’s sculptures illuminate the precarious beauty of our world and entangle themselves, elegantly, in themes that range from the nature of time to the allure of melancholy… An astonishing film.”

-Carter Ratcliff
Contributing Editor: Art in America

“This short film is a gem – a rare insight into a personal and artistic union–the ‘sacred stuff’ of a lasting bond between two like-minded artists and writers – in focus here, Daniel Rothbart and the film’s narrator Wayne Koestenbaum.”

-David Ebony
Contributing Editor: Art in America

La Napoule Art Foundation

An historic museum and vibrant arts center perched on the French Riviera, the Château de La Napoule is the primary facility of the La Napoule Art Foundation. This majestic compound, restored over a century ago by a pair of American artists, is now the serene setting for residencies, workshops and contemporary art exhibitions.

Marie Clews founded La Napoule Art Foundation in 1951 in memory of her husband, a prolific sculptor. It was her dream to create an international center for the arts at the Château that would promote cultural exchange and understanding.

“Art is a peaceful and spiritual occupation and must flourish brightly to offset the horrors of war and maintain the balance of the human mind.”

– Marie Clews
